A Look Back at Last Season

The first weeks of June are upon us, and the 2026 World Cup is just around the corner.

Soccer fever is soon to be unleashed upon the world, and everyone will be a-buzz.

I figured with the start of the Mississippi Soccer Channel, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to give a quick glance backwards towards the season that was 2025-2026 for all of our academic institutions who participate in soccer.

Again, this is simply an objective look at how the 2025-2026 season(s) culminated.

(Also, I openly admit this is somewhere between overkill and not researched enough.)

NCAA Women’s Soccer, Division 1

The Mississippi State University Women’s Soccer Team finished the 2025 season 12-7-1 with an SEC Conference record of 5-4-1. They progressed to the first round of the NCAA Tournament but fell to Lipscomb 1-0. According to a Google search, this was the second meeting between the Bulldogs and Bison with Lipscomb holding a 2-0 record.

The Ole Miss Women’s Soccer Team finished the 2025 season with a 4-8-3 record and a winless SEC record of 0-7-3. They parted ways with head coach Molly Rouse and brought in Todd Shulenberger before the end of the calendar year.

The University of Southern Mississippi’s Women’s Soccer Team ended the season with a 2-14-1, going 1-9-0 in Conference play. Danny Owens was named the new head coach of the USM Golden Eagles in December.

The Jackson State University Women’s Soccer Team had a great 2025, finishing with a 9-7-3 record and a hot 6-1-1 SWAC record. They fell to Grambling in the SWAC Tournament.

The Alcorn State University Women’s Soccer Team had a fairly positive season, finishing with a 5-8-4 record, going 3-3-2 in the SWAC. They also fell to Grambling in the SWAC Tournament.

The Mississippi Valley State Women’s Soccer Team disbanded in August. I have seen conflicting reports stating that the program is either permanently disbanded or is simply stopped for the season. Their website mentions their program in past tense, so I guess we will see what 2026 brings.

NCAA Women’s Division 2

The Mississippi College Women’s Soccer Team didn’t have the season they wanted. They finished with an 8-9-3 record, going 5-5-2 in the Gulf South Conference. They ended their last season under the “Mississippi College” brand with a 3-1 loss to Montevallo.

The Delta State College Women’s Soccer Team finished 7-6-4 with a GSC record of 6-3-3. The Delta State Women’s team fell to UWA 2-1 in the GSC Tournament.

NCAA Men’s Division 2

The Mississippi College Men’s Soccer Team produced a great 2025 season going 15-3-4 overall with a 9-0-2 conference record. The Choctaws made it to the D-II Men’s Tournament but fell to Rollins 5-1 under first year head coach Rafa Costa.

The Delta State Men’s Soccer Team finished 2-10-3, going winless in conference play with a 0-7-1 record. My ADHD was intrigued that they finished the season with a Win, a Loss and Tie, in that order.

NCAA Women’s Division 3

William Carey’s Women’s Team had an impressive 2025, going 20-2 on the season going undefeated in conference play, 10-0. They won the SSAC Tournament 1-0 over Life University and lost in the NAIA Round of 16 against Embry Riddle Aeronautical University from Arizona 2-1.

Belhaven’s Women’s Team also had an impressive 2025 season, going 14-5-3 with a 6-1-1 conference record. They won the CCS Title with a 2-1 win over Asbury but fell to Emory 6-0 in the first match of the D-III Tournament.

The Millsaps Women’s Soccer Team finished their season with a 2-13-2 record, going 0-7 in conference play.

MUW Women’s Soccer Team also had a slow season, going 1-13-4 and 1-6-2 in conference play.

Blue Mountain’s Women’s Team finished the season with a 1-14 record, going winless in conference play, 0-10.

NCAA Men’s Division 3

William Carey’s Men’s Soccer Team had a great season, finishing 14-4-3 and 7-1-1 in conference play. They lost a heartbreaker against John Brown University in PKs after tying 2-2.

Belhaven’s Men’s Soccer Team finished 10-6-4 going even at 2-2-2 in conference play. They made it to the CCS semifinals but fell to Maryville.

Millsaps Men’s Soccer Team finished 7-8-2 with a 1-6 conference record.

MUW Men’s Soccer Team finished 3-13-1 with a 0-7-1 conference record.

Blue Mountain Men’s team finished 4-11-2 with a 2-6-1 conference record.
